What is Catuaba?

The forests of Brazil are the home of the tree from which catuaba is derived. This herb contains three alkaloids named catuabine A, B, and C, which are believed to boost sexual function by stimulating the central nervous system.

British medicinal plant researcher Michael van Straten claims that catuaba improves libido and erectile dysfunction in both men and women and that there is no evidence of side effects, even with long-term use. (Tropical Plant Database)

Use of catuaba to treat erectile dysfunction and libido is mostly based on anecdotal reports and the long history of its use among native peoples for these reasons, and those reports remain positive.

Catuaba is available in various products both alone and in combination formulas. As a sole remedy, a standard dose is 1 to 2 grams in capsules daily.
